PCDC’s High Impact Prevention (HIP) in Health Care program provides free training and technical assistance to HIV treatment and prevention organizations. Service offerings include best practices in HIV testing, culturally competent care delivery, sexual orientation and gender-identity data collection, and much more.

What is the HIP Warmline?

The Warmline is a free consultation service offered by PCDC’s HIP team. The Warmline assists health departments and care providers working in CDC-funded HIV treatment and prevention programs in the Northeastern United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Our staff are available to respond to non-urgent questions or inquiries relating to:

• HIV testing and testing technologies
• delivery of positive and negative results
• strategies for recruiting HIV priority populations
• engagement, linkage, and retention in care
• rapid anti-retroviral therapy
• medication adherence
• pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP & PEP)
• other sexually transmitted infections
• sexual history taking
• social determinants of health

Anyone meeting the criteria for assistance is encouraged to leave a message briefly outlining a question or inquiry via voicemail or email. One of PCDC’s experts will respond as soon as possible, always within three business days.

What is an example of a recent Warmline inquiry?

A health department was eager to enhance their routine sexual history data-collection process and update staff on the new procedures, so they contacted the HIP Warmline.

After providing online resources, we followed up with more in-depth conversations — ultimately creating a formal engagement with a local capacity-building assistance provider specifically focused on this topic.

Who makes up the HIP team?

We are a diverse group of curriculum specialists, content experts, trainers, and technical assistance coaches, each with significant public health experience — specifically with high-risk safety net populations and HIV prevention.

Collectively, we have 25+ years of experience providing CDC-funded capacity building assistance, and most of us have earned advanced degrees. Our expertise extends beyond HIV to related areas such as primary and specialty care, behavioral health, family planning, women’s health, adolescent health, and various models of patient-centered care.

This insight lends to truly expert advice for HIV prevention and care providers, at no cost.

What other services does the HIP team offer?

We offer free technical assistance services to CDC-funded clinical sites, health departments, and community-based organizations. These services are customized and tailored to meet the unique needs of each organization — no two organizations are alike, and neither is our approach.

Offerings include coaching, in-person or virtual workshops, consultation and facilitation, learning communities, webinars, and informational briefs covering specific topic areas.

Our goal is to expand and improve the delivery of HIV prevention services using the core components of the CDC’s HIP strategy.
