PCDC Supports Addiction Treatment Services for Women with Children in Nashville, Tennessee

Renewal House, the only residential addiction treatment program for pregnant women and women and their children in Middle Tennessee, received a total of $9 million in New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) to construct a new addiction treatment and mental health facility in Nashville. This 35,000 square foot inpatient and outpatient facility will allow Renewal House to double the number of families served through its addiction treatment and recovery programs. The facility will also add 34 apartment units for inpatient and residential treatment services.

This project was financed in late December 2020 through the issuance of NMTC, federal tax credits designed to stimulate investment in under-resourced communities, by Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) and US Bank. PCDC is eager about its first project in Tennessee, as it carries forward its strong commitment to providing financing support to addiction treatment programs, as well as other behavioral health programs, in communities that most need it.

Tennessee has a significant need for substance use services as it is in the top 15 of all states in drug overdose deaths and has one of the highest rates of babies born with withdrawal symptoms known as neonatal abstinence syndrome. Renewal House’s new facility will continue to serve pregnant and parenting women who require long-term addiction treatment. Additionally, it will house an on-site clinic to meet medical and mental health needs, while also expanding on existing services such as individual and group therapy, parenting skills courses, relapse prevention courses, and vocational support. This site will also include a children’s program designed to help them improve social and emotional development, while providing resources for physical and educational needs.

Pamela Sessions, Chief Executive Officer of Renewal House

“The new facility on campus will allow Renewal to double our treatment capacity,” said Pamela Sessions, Chief Executive Officer of Renewal House. “This will fulfill a critical need to a population that has limited resources available for treatment and recovery support.”

Anne Dyjak, Managing Director of Capital Investment at PCDC noted, “With the opioid epidemic acutely affecting Tennessee, this influx of funds will allow Renewal House to help women get the services they need, improve their physical and mental health, and care for and stay united with their families.”
