This generous and transformative donation will support PCDC’s work across the U.S. to strengthen communities and build health equity through strategic primary care investment, expertise, and advocacy.
Primary Care Development Corporation, a national, nonprofit community development organization focused on increasing access to primary care and advancing health equity, announced today that it has received an additional $15 million donation from MacKenzie Scott, boosting her total contribution to the organization to $25 million since 2020. This catalytic gift will significantly strengthen PCDC’s efforts and ability to ensure that all individuals, all families, and all communities have access to high-quality primary care – when and where they need it.
As the preeminent non-profit provider of financing to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and other safety-net health care organizations, PCDC helps to expand access to high-quality, affordable primary care, increase local employment opportunities, and bolster local economies, thereby improving the health and wealth of communities that need it most.
After multiple years of consistent growth, PCDC has leveraged nearly $1.6 billion in financing, manages $338 million of assets, and recently achieved a milestone of over $100 million in loans outstanding to primary care providers in communities of color, low-income and rural communities. Scott’s first gift to PCDC played a significant role in those achievements, allowing us to offer financing at below-market interest rates, creating affordable capital, and enabling primary and behavioral health care organizations to meet the needs of their communities by expanding and improving the services they provide.
Over the past 30+ years, PCDC has coached tens of thousands of health care workers across thousands of organizations to transform their operations and strengthen their ability to offer effective, responsive, and integrated primary care in their communities. With MacKenize Scott’s first gift, we introduced new programs, including financial planning and management, expanding our internal expertise to support practices in ensuring their financial stability and health.
What all these achievements and investments reflect is healthier and more equitable communities across the country: 5.2 million new primary care visits to 650,000 patients every year, and 14,000 permanent jobs created or preserved in low-income and rural areas. Millions more people now have access to high-quality primary care, particularly those in communities that have historically been underserved and disinvested.
“We are incredibly grateful for the trust and generosity of MacKenzie Scott and her commitment to addressing systemic inequities and improving the lives of individuals in communities that have experienced disinvestment,” said Louise Cohen, CEO of PCDC. “This donation is a testament to PCDC’s 30-year track record of meaningful impact and will ensure that we can continue to make needed investments and build capacity so that all individuals have access to high-quality primary care, and primary care practices have the support and tools they need to build and sustain their practices, now and in the future.”
