Primary Care and DSRIP: From Promise to Reality
On January 13, 2015, PCDC hosted a discussion at the New York Academy of Medicine on how New York’s Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment Program (DSRIP) can ensure the major expansion of high-quality primary care. An expert panel, including New York State’s DSRIP Program Director and five PPS “leads” had spirited discussions focused on how to measure and address primary care capacity and need; how primary maintains a role in the PPS decision making process; and how to implement and pay for the primary care expansion and transformation required to meet DSRIP goals. The discussion reflected that we are still very early in the DSRIP process, and that stakeholders will need to work and collaborate in ways they may have not in the past to deliver on the promise of more and better primary care to reduce avoidable hospitals use and cost.
