Celebrating Primary Care Investment Passage in New York State

Last week, New York State took a monumental step toward increasing health equity and access to primary care for every New Yorker.

Under the leadership of Assemblyman Richard Gottfried and Senator Gustavo Rivera, the Assembly and Senate passed A7230-B/S6534-C, a bill designed to help New York move towards a primary care-centered health care system, fostering a patient-centered model of care to ensure that every patient has access to the right care, at the right time, in the right place.

When enacted, this legislation will establish a primary care reform commission made up of stakeholders and agency officials to determine how much money is spent on primary care now and create concrete recommendations for lawmakers about how to increase access to quality primary care through increased spending.

After two years of tireless advocacy, we are proud to be here and thankful for our many supporters and partners – but our work is not done.

To formally enact this legislation, it must be signed by Governor Hochul. In the coming weeks, we will reach out with specific calls to action so that, together, we can make primary care access a reality for every New Yorker in every community. In the meantime, let’s celebrate this win for primary care!
