NEW YORK, N.Y., July 5, 2016 – The Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) and Enterprise Community Loan Fund (Enterprise) announced that they have closed on a loan that will enable Brightpoint Health to open a 16,000 sq. ft. federally qualified health center (FQHC) in the Bronx. The new site will be located in the Triangle Plaza Hub, a new development of mixed-use retail and office facilities that opened in the heart of the South Bronx in August 2015. The Triangle Plaza Hub has created over 150 construction jobs and is anticipated to create 188 permanent jobs.
When completed, the Brightpoint Health Center will be among the first in the community to offer integrated primary care, behavioral health and Health Home services for adults and children. The center will utilize four adult and four pediatric primary care exam rooms, as well as 14 behavioral health counseling rooms, and be able to serve up to 36,000 patients by the third year.
“The Hunts Point/Mott Haven community has seen a recent influx of primary care providers delivering critically needed care, but more help, particularly behavioral health services, is still needed,” said Anne Dyjak, Managing Director of PCDC. “PCDC is proud to be supporting Brightpoint’s plans to improve the overall health of this community by bringing much-needed behavioral and integrated care services.”
The project is being supported through a $4 million loan from PCDC, which includes a $1.5 million participation with Enterprise. Both organizations are designated community development financial institutions that have worked extensively in New York’s underserved communities. In the South Bronx, where the new center will be located, almost 40 percent of residents are below the federal poverty level.
“Enterprise is excited to be supporting Brightpoint Health and bringing integrated primary and behavioral health care services to the community,” said Lori Chatman, President, Enterprise Community Loan Fund. “The hub is at a vital crossroads in the South Bronx, and will provide improved access to quality medical services for residents living in the 5,700 affordable homes we have financed in the community.”
Brightpoint is a long-standing FQHC with a 25-year history in New York City, currently operating 15 sites throughout the five boroughs. PCDC has supported Brightpoint’s efforts to transform the communities it serves since 2011.
