The unsustainable cost of healthcare in the United States has created the demand for major expansion and transformation of primary care. The shift toward building a system grounded in excellent primary care is permeating every facet of the healthcare spectrum, from state Medicaid programs to medical education; from healthcare delivery models to reimbursement policies; from community development to public health. All the while, we are amid extreme economic and political turmoil.
The future of healthcare requires major redesign of primary care to accommodate millions more patients and to assure a high-performing, accountable and affordable model of care. PCDC plays a role in redesigning the healthcare system in three key areas of financing, performance improvement, and policy/advocacy.
